Therapeutic Exercise

Refers to exercises focally directed to specific muscles of muscle groups with intent to increase stabilization at a joint, improve mobility around a joint, increase the flexibility of specific musculature, enhance balance and proprioception, and improve the overall strength of the musculature involved. Therapeutic exercise is an important part of any rehabilitation program; however, it is NOT formal physical therapy. In contrast this is a good treatment option that often is, and usually should, be introduced in conjunction with other treatment modalities and manual techniques.

  1. These are the most common treatment types:
  2. Body weight (closed chain) exercise
  3. Free weight (open chain) exercise
  4. Resistance band exercise
From children to seniors, pain doesn’t discriminate. Whether it’s acute, chronic, or the result of an injury, physical therapy helps your body heal, move better, and regain balance—supporting your overall health every step of the way.
